We get the word “gospel” from the original Anglo Saxon word Godspell, which means “the story concerning God or good news.” In Isaiah 7:14 it says, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Immanuel means “God with us,” so when Jesus told the disciples in Mark 16:15 to, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature,” He was including Himself in the good news.
